Bye Bye Lechie Lech

Greetings Earthlings.

Last ski day was icy as hell (if hell were icy) with high winds and rain. One might think this would make it easy to leave; but one would be wrong. Our last night we had a lovely extended dinner with some locals, but it was painful not to see any familiar faces- even worse, was seeing impostors in our friends' seats.
K and G stood with us in the early morning, waving at our car until the very last minute; little figures in black we hate to leave.
My trainer - the one who came to Lech this summer, had a great year in 2014: she ran with Kenyans in Austria, had a personal best at the Boston marathon; ran a very fast 50 miler, and has a new, armed, ultra-marathoner, FBI boyfriend with whom she can stroll in any neighborhood in San Francisco.
Anyway, she cheerfully wrote and asked us to list our goals for 2015. Thomas and I thought about it, but eventually came to the realization that we don't  believe in setting goals. It's limiting. Also boring. Instead our philosophy can be summarized in the words of an especially weird and cerebral classmate of Thomas' from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (worst football team ever...) He never studied for finals, (even though he needed to) saying, simply: I don't hope for miracles.
I depend on them.

Happy New Year Girls !

Important Blog Announcement: I hope this doesn't mess up my Latvian fan, but I think I need to put a password on this baby before the next trip...it will likely be my maiden name but I'll let you know. xx
